Many of us have a story of being scammed. It’s an unfortunate reality that we all live with but is particularly mean when families believe they have purchased a new puppy and there is not one to pick up. You may see puppy announcements and updates on various platforms; Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Gumtree and even some very professional looking websites. How can you be sure you are getting the puppy you paid for?
- If the breeder has a phone number, call them directly. Most breeders will be happy to arrange a video call to see the puppies if they have a current litter. Alternatively, send them an email and ask to speak on the phone.
- For people who advertise they are a member of the Australian Labradoodle Association, check the Australian Labradoodle Association website and make sure the breeder’s email and web address match.
- Ask if you can visit your puppy prior to going home (we allow families to visit when the pups are 6 weeks or older).
- If you see a Labradoodle out in the community, ask the owner who the breeder is and if they would recommend them.
- Check a picture of the puppy using a reverse image search and see if it appears on other websites. It may be an illegal copy.
